Program Overview:

Alexander (Lex) Henkels developed his appreciation for the power of a worldwide network while working for the Associated Press in New York. Later he became a photo editor and manager for the Philadelphia Inquirer. Mr. Henkels also served as a volunteer president and member of the investment committee of a mental health foundation. Lex left the Inquirer in 1995 to explore the possibilities of the Internet, online marketing and advertising. While helping one company create an international footprint, he developed contacts that would lead to the formation of Providence Trade and Development.

The goals of Providence Trade and Development is to provide resources, goods and services that improve the quality of life. We focus on necessities, like clean water, and sustainable solutions, like solar power. We hope to be of service to underserved markets. The organization is partnering with innovative leaders in waste to energy technology, energy efficiency, solar power, solar pump technology, ultra-efficient irrigation techniques, solar water water filtration and more. “Providence delivers systems that can save lives.”

CCE Community Choice Aggregation (CCA) is a public, not-for-profit electricity provider that offers service to approximately 450,000 customers in the San Francisco Bay Area. Our customers have the choice of having 50% to 100% of their electricity supplied from clean, renewable sources—such as solar, wind, bioenergy, geothermal, and hydroelectric—at competitive rates.
MCE formed in 2008, following six years of careful study and development, and service was launched to customers on May 7, 2010, as California’s first Community Choice Aggregation program. MCE’s mission is to address climate change by reducing energy related greenhouse gas emissions through renewable energy supply and energy efficiency at stable and competitive rates for customers while providing local economic and workforce benefits.

Between 2010 and 2015, MCE eliminated more than 185,751 metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions, and, to date, has committed over $1.6 billion to build 813 MW of new California renewable projects, supporting more than 2,800 jobs.

Bentham Paulos is the principal of PaulosAnalysis, an energy policy, advocacy, communications, and consulting shop. Paulos is an analyst, thought leader, strategist, writer, and advocate for clean energy. PaulosAnalysis clients have included governments, non-profits, foundations, research and consulting firms, trade associations, and media.

Paulos is on the board of the Clean Energy States Alliance and an Affiliate in the Electricity Markets & Policy Group at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab. He conceived, launched, and directs the Power Markets Project, studying reforms to electricity markets in the US and Germany. He did the same for America’s Power Plan, a policy roadmap to a clean energy future funded by the Energy Foundation. He is a correspondent for POWER, Greentech Media, and the Energy Transition blog.

Paulos was on the staff of the Energy Foundation from 2000 to 2013, directing the renewable energy work for the whole time, utility efficiency work for five years, and creating and managing the first US grants program on advanced biofuels for three years.

Since 1979, Mark Snyder has performed thousands of inspection reports for fires and floods, including the 2003 Cedar & Paradise Fire. He is a Master Electrician, Forensic Electrical Specialist, Inventor, and Officer in a publicly listed energy company. Mark is a California Licensed Home Improvement and C10 Contractor. He is licensed in 26 states with a focus in alternative energy and new technology especially dealing with the Native American Nations. Mark Snyder is also committed to the creation of a sustainable future and has been recognized worldwide as an expert on evolving alternative energy technologies and applications.

In 1985, Mark designed and installed Southern California’s first large bio-energy conversion project using agricultural waste – a local San Diego greenhouse used agricultural waste (peach pits) to produce 100 kWh of electricity and heat per day. He is credited with creating the “Silent Night Aire”. This is an energy efficient solution to home heating and cooling costs. The Silent Night Aire dramatically reduces the cost of air conditioning and flushes harmful pollutants out of homes silently and seamlessly. He has worked as a consultant for Dream Works, Stephen Spielberg, NASA Houston, JPL, U.S. Army, along with the International Space Station.
