Program Overview:

Agricultural Development Trust (Krishi Vigyan Kendra or KVK), Baramati is a District level Farm Science Center established on 1st August 1992 under the affiliation of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi in Baramati District, Pune City, Maharashtra State, India. Baramati KVK is a Model, High Technology, and National Award winning KVK of India working for most diverse farming communities over a quarter of a century for the development of sustainable, innovative, and resilient agriculture to serve the needs of farmers, agricultural enterprises, research institutions, India consumers, the rapidly expanding export sector, and the Nation’s food security.

The operational area of this Krishi Vigyan Kendra is up to the seven [7] sub-divisions (tehsils) of Baramati District. The aim of KVYs are to reduce the time lag between generation of technology at the research institutions and transfer to the farmer’s field for increasing production, productivity, and income from the agriculture and allied sectors on a sustained basis. In order to achieve this goal, four mandates have been envisaged in the design of the Baramati KVK.

This KVK and host institute farm is situated at six kilometer (4 miles) west of the Baramati District. This center has a large area of technology assessment and demonstration. The total land area also includes a dairy, plant nursery, conditioned plant growth facilities, well, water harvesting, and storage tanks, administration center, educational facilities, and all needed modern infrastructure. The demonstration farm is used for real-time testing of new technologies as well as genesis of good quality seed and seedlings. This Agricultural Development Trust (Krishi Vigyan Kendra or KVK), Baramati is one of the most modern, innovative, progressive, and integrated complex of agricultural experimentation, testing, production, education, hands-on training, seedlings distribution, and “best practices” training for thousands of farmers annually and other agriculturalists in India and indeed the world.
