Program Overview:

Since its founding in 1917, Washington Area New Automobile Dealers Association (WANADA) primary mission has been to represent and promote the retail automobile business in the Washington Metropolitan area. Through a wide range of community programs and events, public policy, industry representation, and ongoing dealership management and benefit programs, WANADA and its franchised new car and truck dealer members are well positioned to meet the 21st Century challenges of a booming regional economy and an industry in transition.

WANADA’s principal role is to promote all aspects of the retail new automobile business in the Washington region. Secondarily, WANADA represents its dealer membership in the local, state, and national public policy process and speaks for its part of the automotive industry in public and media forums.

Designated one of the nation’s top five auto shows by the International Organization of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers, The Washington Auto Show®, a world class event, continues to wow audiences with its cutting-edge exhibits, latest model cars and displays of historic vehicles. As the “Public Policy Show” on the auto show circuit, the ten [10] day public show is preceded by two [2] Public Policy Preview Days of special events and announcements for government, industry, and the media.

The Washington Auto show is also the largest public show in Washington, D.C. Over the course of its many years this historic D.C. tradition has attracted Washingtonians of all socio-economic-educational-political backgrounds and affiliations. Based upon annual participants surveys the visitors enjoy the annual trek to the Walter E. Washington Convention Center for the entertainment, as much as for the experience of viewing the hundreds of automobiles on exhibit.

The Automotive Technician Training Program is a program of WANADA’s Automobile Dealer Education Institute (ADEI) which has as its mission is to develop training and educational programs for its members in the Washington Metro Area.

The ADEI scholarship is a free, National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF) certified, 2-year technician-training program. It combines structured classroom, hands-on practical and real life shop, and interactive curriculum teaching with full time, paid on-the-job training.

The ADEI scholarship is a student’s or an adults first step toward a successful future in the automobile industry. Not only does it provide students with the knowledge and skills needed to become a highly paid Master Automotive Technician, but a well-paying job as they pursue their studies. The NATEF has established three levels of accreditation: Maintenance and Light Repair (MLR); Auto Service Technology (AST); and Master Auto Service Technology (MAST). The differences at each level are reflected in the number of tasks, number of instructional hours, and the instructors qualifications. Each level builds on the previous one and covers all major automotive systems, but to different depths of learning.
