Green DMV is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that promotes clean energy and green jobs as a pathway out of poverty in low-income communities across America. They are working to ensure that the environmental, social and economic benefits of a clean energy future are inclusive of all people that share our natural resources.
Recently (as of April 2012) Green DMV has partnered with AME Church Bishops Vashti Murphy McKenzie and Adam Jefferson Richardson, Jr. and The Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies, to help AME congregations raise their environmental awareness, make their churches more energy efficient and redirect cost savings to contribute to the churches’ mission.
In April 2011, Green DMV won the Mid-Atlantic Environmental Excellence award. They have done things such as launching an Environmental Literacy Initiative for D.C Teacher and also working with houses of worship by helping them manage their own energy consumption using energy management software tools enabling them to take an active role in financial, energy and environmental stewardship.
Natural Partners & Mr. Willian Dent, Jr.
The mission of Natural Partners is to assist grassroots environmental groups to mobilize the financial and human resources needed for them to acquire the rights to and manage strategic areas of the world’s most threatened ecosystems to ensure their long-term preservation and stewardship for generations to come.
Mr. Dent is a native of Washington, DC. After attending the University of Maryland, where he earned a Bachelor’s in history, he served in the Peace Corps in Chile. Upon his return, he did graduate work at the University of Chicago, earning a Master’s degree in education and an MBA in finance. With the support of the Ford Foundation, Mr. Dent moved to Brazil to serve as a consultant to BNDES, the National Development Bank of Brazil, where he sensed the need for better business training and assisted Roberto Lima Netto in founding SEBRAE, Brazil’s Small Business Administration, today the country’s most important ‘business school’ for aspiring entrepreneurs.
Mr. Dent then served as project manager at the Inter-American Development Bank putting together a number of innovative projects in Brazil, the Dominican Republic, Haiti, Honduras and Costa Rica, involving investments in excess of $2 billion. During the 1990’s, Mr. Dent founded and was CEO of CD-ROM International, pioneering the introduction of U.S. and European bibliographic databases (e.g., Medline) and related IT services at some 200 institutions throughout Brazil.
