The aim of The Emerald Trek is to link principles identified among the 1,000 best practices in the 144 nations engaged in this worldwide movement. Over a five-year period, The Emerald Trek will traverse 300,000 miles and include 750 major cities and 50,000 suburban and rural communities. The official start of the Trek will take place at the National Museum of the American Indian and the United States Capitol in the Spring of 2014.This worldwide movement will link millions of citizens around the globe through community-by-community identifications, evaluations, broadcasts, and promotions. In the course of the Trek, a special 20-day scientific research expedition will be conducted in Antarctica with a companion study and daily broadcast from the South Georgia and Falkland Islands. A number of Mini-Treks have already been conducted in Argentina, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, France, Germany, Honduras, India, Italy, Luxembourg, Marshall Islands, Mongolia, Papua New Guinea, Slovenia, Sri Lanka, Switzerland, Trinidad & Tobago, and Uruguay. The Trek will end with a global television event in October, 2019 in New York City in conjunction with the convocation of the United Nations General Assembly and the Clinton Global Initiatives Forum.
