The Initiative to Educate Afghan Women is a four year education and leadership development program working to create the next generation of women leaders in Afghanistan.  We partner with leading US colleges and universities to deliver undergraduate degrees, as well as provide training and guidance for graduates helping other Afghan women assume leadership roles in their homeland.

The Institute for Sustainable Development was founded in the North Carolina Research Triangle in 2003 by a unique partnership of academic, business and philanthropic leaders, which included Duke University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, the Chapel Hill-Carrboro and Greater Durham Chambers of Commerce, and the Fenwick Foundation. The Institute has trained more than 200 chamber of commerce executives across the United States, and 160 small businesses and non-profits in twelve U.S. states.

In July 2017, the Institute started a new chapter to focus on more long-term issues affecting disaster recovery, resilience, and the future. ISD continues to build on its legacy of bringing together business, academic, and other thought leaders to promote partnerships, policies, and projects that promote (a) community resilience and disaster recovery, and (b) long-term community transformation based on applied innovation and sustainable development principles.

 The International African Association (French: Association internationale africaine) was a front organization established by the guests at the Brussels Geographic Conference of 1876, an event hosted by King Leopold II of Belgium. The Association was used by King Leopold ostensibly to further his humanitarianprojects in the area of Central Africa, the area that was to become Leopold’s privately controlled Congo Free State. King Leopold volunteered space in Brussels for the International African Association’s headquarters, and there were to be national committees of the association set up in all the participating countries, as well as an international committee. Leopold was elected by acclamation as the international committee’s first chairman, but said that he would serve for one year only so that the chairmanship could rotate among people from different countries.

The International Arctic Science Committee (IASC) is a non-governmental, international scientific organization. The Founding Articles committed IASC to pursue a mission of encouraging and facilitating cooperation in all aspects of Arctic research, in all countries engaged in Arctic research and in all areas of the Arctic region. Overall, IASC promotes and supports leading-edge multi-disciplinary research in order to foster a greater scientific understanding of the Arctic region and its role in the Earth system.
