Program Overview:

GRID Alternatives Mid-Atlantic is an affiliate of GRID Alternatives, a national leader in making clean, affordable solar power and solar jobs accessible to low-income communities and communities of color. GRID’s energy access work is powering off-grid communities across the globe. GRID’s vision: a successful transition to clean, renewable energy that includes everyone.

The nation’s largest nonprofit solar installer, GRID develops and implements rooftop and community solar projects for affordable housing providers and households qualifying as low-income. Through its unique, people-first model, GRID is putting money back into families’ pockets, reducing the energy cost burden for housing providers, and jump starting solar careers. It partners with affordable housing organizations, job training groups, government agencies, municipalities, utilities, and local communities to make solar a win for everyone.

GRID Alternatives Mid-Atlantic region launched in 2014 to serve communities in the District of Columbia, Maryland, Virginia, and Delaware. The organization currently partners with the Washington, D.C. Department of Energy and the Environment (DOEE) and the Department of Employment Services (DOES). This partnership implement the Solar Works DC program, providing District residents with solar installation training, and no-cost solar. It is expanding its impact by installing solar PV systems on multi-family projects and bringing the benefits of solar to tenants.
